Thailand

by AndyMac

Yep, Thailand! We both wanted to take a big vacation, but not anything too expensive, and it just so happened that Ravi and Katie were currently stationed in Thailand and available when we were. This also coincided with our first anniversary, making it a little more special.

We did so many little things each day on our trip, and people have been asking for all kinds of different details, so I think I’ll try to describe the trip day by day and cover all those questions at once. That will make this post really long, so maybe just scan through the pictures if you want ;). (Read more…)

Honeymoon

042

It’s taken me a while to get this up here, but I wanted to share some pictures from our trip to St Lucia!

Liz beat me to it and put together a cute photo book of the trip, so I’m going to basically copy her excellent selections up here.

Glen Haven 2013

by AndyMac

GriceCabinFlood

I just recently got an opportunity to go up to Glen Haven after the flooding and try to help out for a day. It was incredible to see the amount of damage done and it was awesome to see the community gathering to put things back together. My Aunt and Uncle were up there for most of the flood and are rebuilding … their house having weathered the storm.

Steamboat Springs for Labor Day

by AndyMac

hiking2

We took a nice, relaxing trip to a cabin outside of Steamboat Springs over Labor Day weekend. Being as it was Labor Day, this is probably close to the last big motorcycle trip we’ll be taking this year.

Dragon Boats!

by AndyMac

hongkong

hongkongOn the weekend of July 27th and 28th, Liz, Aaron, and I rowed Dragon Boats. Aaron was on a team from his work, and Liz and I were on the OCA team that she participated in last year. She and I practiced exactly twice before the race, and in some senses, it definitely showed. We got to see some folks who practice every week, and even competed against them (we lost). Overall, though, we hit 4th out of 16 races in the qualifying event! Not bad!

Meeker Range Call Weekend

by AndyMac

bootsGot mostly over the sickness of the previous weeks, and this July 4th weekend, Liz and I took a road trip to Meeker, Colorado. Why Meeker? Well, the inspiration was that Gloriana was going to be playing there, but they were also one of the places still hosting fireworks, and to top it off, they were having a rodeo! I seemed to have recovered enough to make the trip, so we decided to try! (Read more…)

Mountains

(Title a-la “The Shining”: Mudder … Mudder)

This was it. This was a tough weekend. Liz got the ball rolling with her Blondes vs Brunettes football game, raising money for Alzheimer’s research while crushing the opposing blondes in a 27-14 victory. I finished it up with an 11+ mile Tough Mudder starting at 8300 feet above sea level, raising money for the Wounded Warrior project.

Amit’s Visit to Denver

by AndyMac

golden_amit

So Amit came out to visit this last weekend. It’s a weird time to be visiting … we just got another couple inches of snow on Wednesday after a 70 degree weekend. Skiing isn’t good now, but Trailridge is still closed and thanks to the snow, hiking trails are really muddy. All kinds of in-between. Thankfully, his visit was at least mostly pleasant weather (50’s and 60’s). This trip’s theme, in retrospect, was “live music and good food”. (Read more…)

Sunset Cruise

Sunset Cruise
We had a Pedros* getaway coming up, and this time, decided to meet up with Dan at his current home in Miami, FL. We had Ravi & family, Dan & family, Carsten, Amit, and myself all there! As usual, I was very bad about actually taking pictures, so I’ll update as I receive them from the rest of the guys.

Turkey, Hot Yoga, and Hiking in DC

by AndyMac

turkey

This week flew by and was filled with food (which is the hallmark of a great trip) shared with great friends and family (another important hallmark). It was a very busy week, so I figure I’ll just give a play by play! I’ll update with more pictures as I get them.

Dad’s 60th Birthday Weekend

by AndyMac

balloon

Happy birthday, Dad!

For Dad’s 60th, we all met up in Granby, Colorado. We stayed at the Inn at Silvercreek, at dinner at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, had drinks back at the inn, took a hot air balloon ride with Grand Adventure Balloon Tours in the morning, and then met up with Grandmom at Kenny’s Steakhouse in Greeley for the next day’s dinner.

It was a blast!

Well, I got to go camping and shoot off a few hundred rounds of ammo this weekend. Not bad!

We got a bunch of folks together, a bunch of guns together, and headed out to the Pawnee National Grasslands (northeast of Ault, Colorado). Yeah, it’s definitely the middle of nowhere.

Once we all arrived, some time after 1pm or so, the spread was laid out:

Warrior Dash 2012

by AndyMac

dash

Well, I finished the warrior dash!

All in all, it was actually a very easy race! I was a little anxious going in because I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, it’s a 5k race through “military” obstacles at 9,000 feet elevation. That sounds intimidating. Even so, I decided to run it in a kilt. Just for fun. Definitely got a little attention for that!

Why to take bad trips

by AndyMac

Those who know me will know that I sometimes set out on travel knowing things are going to be a little rough or go a little poorly. One of the recent motorcycle trips I took, I was headed to Wyoming to visit a hotel built more than 100 years ago (and not really refurbished much). It was late in the season, so it was bound to be cold and bad weather in general.

Even so, I knew it was going to be worth doing. (Read more…)

Hey Amit! DC 2012

by AndyMac

Pedros & Friends

During the time I spent in Virginia growing up, I was involved in the Boy Scouts. I met a solid group of friends then who are all still close. Our patrol was called the Pedros (the cartoon donkey associated with Boy’s Life magazine that the Boy Scouts put out), so that’s the name we still go by.

This get together was because Amit was coming back from Botswana for a short bit, and it just happened that a few Pedros were already in the area (not always the case with this world-traveling bunch), so I flew in.  (Read more…)

Western Colorado Motorcycle Trip 2012

by AndyMac

CameraZOOM-20120525144929645

I’ve set a goal of trying to take one trip, or do one bigger activity every month. Something I don’t do all the time. Something that breaks me out of my current environment and habits.

This month, Polycom asked us to take a few days off (paid, but using our vacation), so I had plenty of time, but still not a ton of cash.

Time for a Road Trip.

Altogether, I covered about 1200 miles, but broke it up into 6 days, so it was an easy ride.

$100 Motorcycle Getaway 2011:

by AndyMac

I decided I needed a trip … something completely different. I’ve changed jobs, but still haven’t taken a break in a long time. I wanted to just head out on the bike, point in a general direction, get away from the city / suburbs, and do nothing in particular.

Therefore … Wyoming.
